This must be the easiest way to earn a free IHG hotel night. Just apply for a IHG credit card, spend £200 within three months and you will bag yourself a 10,000 bonus. That’s in addition to the points you earn per pound spent on the card, and is enough for two PointBreak nights or one night in a category one hotel. Here’s the link for the current list of PointBreaks offers.
How does the IHG credit card compare?
Compared to most airline credit cards, this offer is an absolute steal. Many airline credit cards have an annual fee and require spend of £2,000 to £3,000 to secure the bonuses. For someone like me, who travels for work, that spend in two or three months is a piece of cake, but not everyone relishes the prospect of spending that amount on cards.
Let’s face it though, even if a couple simply diverted all their monthly food shopping onto the card, this amount could be reached in a month, never mind three. This offer is a gift!
What are the other benefits?
For every pound you spend, you will earn one IHG point. This increases to two points for every pound spent overseas or in IHG properties.
You also benefit from an upgrade to gold but frankly that doesn’t get you much, other than priority check in, late check out and a slight uplift in award points. You can exchange your bonus points for a drink in the bar which sometimes comes as a welcome relief after a hard day!
You can also take advantage of a 0% balance transfer for twelve months. Note, this incurs an initial charge of 3% of the amount transferred, subject to a minimum of £3.
Where can you redeem your IHG points?
You will be spoiled for choice with over 5,000 hotels around the world. There are twelve brands to choose from, ranging in cost from more budget options like the Holiday Inn Express to the seriously swank Intercontinentals. Personally, I prefer to save up those points and go somewhere special rather than using them for a budget break. I particularly like this hotel in Alpensia, South Korea for instance.
Redemptions start from as little as 5,000 if you can take advantage of the PointBreaks offer. Woah, even better than one free night is two! Otherwise a category one hotel is 10,000 so how about a city break? Details of the different categories can be found in my recent post ‘Accelerate Your Earnings’
How do I rate this card?
It’s not the most rewarding credit card but it also carries no cost. If you want to speed up your journey to FREE hotel nights, it is a worthwhile addition to your credit card arsenal, particularly if you are in a void period between recycling your AMEX cards (Want to know what I mean? What do I think of IHG?
You can read a bunch of other posts featuring IHG here but this group is rapidly become my preferred choice. The regular accelerate offers, welcome drinks and comfy beds (Not those rock-hard ones you get in the Hiltons!) give me everything I need for business or pleasure!

Please note I have not been paid, nor am I receiving affiliate income for recommending this card. As usual, I am alerting readers to offers which I have personally taken advantage of to gain more points. This is one of the easiest yet!
